Tether ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Tether mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

Tether is designed to store your personal data locally on your device. This may include:

  • Profile information (such as your name, if provided, and app preferences)
  • Health journal entries (symptoms, foods, supplements, exposures, recovery activities, and logged events)
  • Sensitivity profile data (conditions, triggers, safe items, and items under evaluation)
  • Saved protocols and bookmarked items
  • Daily streak and activity tracking data
  • AI chat history with the Cortex assistant
  • App settings (theme preferences, notifications, and configuration options)

This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Your data will only leave your device if you:

  • Choose to export it, or
  • Use AI-powered features that require third-party processing (described below)

2. AI Features and Third-Party Processing

When you use the “Ask Cortex” AI assistant, certain relevant portions of your data may be transmitted to a third-party AI provider in order to generate responses.

This may include:

  • Relevant portions of your journal entries
  • Relevant sensitivity profile data
  • Your questions and conversation context

Tether currently uses Google’s Gemini API to process AI responses.

Data sent to Google is processed solely for the purpose of generating AI responses within the App. We encourage you to review Google’s Privacy Policy to understand how they handle data submitted to their services.

We do not store your AI conversation data on our own servers.

3. How We Use Information

Information handled by the App is used solely to:

  • Provide tracking and journaling functionality
  • Generate AI-powered insights when requested
  • Calculate streaks and usage-based features
  • Maintain app preferences and settings
  • Improve in-app functionality

We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal health data.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • All personal data is stored locally on your device.
  • We do not operate servers that store your health journal or sensitivity data.
  • We do not have access to your locally stored information.
  • You may export your data at any time through the App’s settings.
  • You may delete your data at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the App.

While we take reasonable measures to protect the App and its functionality, no method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties, except in the following circumstances:

AI PROCESSING:

When you use Cortex AI, relevant data is transmitted to Google’s Gemini API to generate responses.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:

If required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.

6. Analytics and Tracking

Tether does not collect advertising identifiers, behavioral tracking data, or third-party marketing analytics.

The App does not use advertising networks or sell user data.

7. Your Rights and Control

You have full control over your data:

  • Access: View your information directly within the App
  • Export: Export your journal and profile data at any time
  • Delete: Clear entries or remove all data through the App’s settings
  • Opt-Out of AI: You may choose not to use Cortex AI features if you prefer not to transmit data to a third-party AI provider

Because data is stored locally on your device, deleting the App will remove your stored data unless you have exported it.

8. Children’s Privacy

Tether is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us.

9. Medical Disclaimer

Tether is intended for informational and tracking purposes only. The App does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional regarding medical concerns or health decisions.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected by revising the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
